History of lake seminole presbyterian church
The church began as John Knox Presbyterian Church of Seminole on Sunday, January 19, 1964. Services were held at 8:30 a.m. at the Seminole Elementary School under the pastorate of Reverend Joseph W. Conyers, Jr. Six months later, on July 20, 1964, the congregation held its first service in the new building at 11250 86th Avenue N. On May 16, 1965, the congregation, with 75 members, was formally organized and chose the name Lake Seminole Presbyterian Church. Reverend Bruce Smead was named pastor. He served the congregation for 22 years, from 1965 until he retired in April 1987.
When Reverend Smead retired in 1986, Reverend William Davis was called to serve in 1988. In 1991, Reverend Durl Odom brought his congregation from Kirk of the Lake Presbyterian Church (Bardmoor area) to join congregations, and served as assistant pastor for one year. After 15 years, Reverend Davis retired from ministry in 2003. In the winter of 2005, Reverend Robert Wierenga accepted the offer to serve as the pastor. He spent 12 years in ministry at the church and retired at the end of 2016. Presently, Lake Seminole Presbyterian Church’s pastor is The Reverend Dr. Kitty Hahn-Campanella who arrived and began to serve as the minister in 2017.
